Thanksgiving at the El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center was enjoyed by a crowd of 250 mostly immigrant workers and families who gave thanks for life's blessings before enjoyng a traditional trukey dinner with all the trimmings.
The celebration was sponsored by St. Peter Catholic church. Sevral dozen volunteers from the church and from St. Jude Ctholic Church and El Sol served the dinner to an oveflow crowd of appreciative workers, including families with children. Donations by businesses, indviduals and other churches and organizaions made it all possible, accordng to organizers.
Diners feasted on roast turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, green beans and cranberry sauce provided by the nonprofit Big Heart Brigade of Palm Beach Gardens. Tortillas and a plethora of assorted pies and cakes filled out the holiday meal.
"Everyone left with a full stomach," said Denise Schumann, who chaired the event. "We used many, many volunteers who gave up their time with their own families to come and help," she said. They included Jupiter Town Council member Jim Kuretski who was among those serving as wait staff carrying meals from the kitchen to the diners.
The Thanksgiving dinner was the third held at the nonprofit El Sol Center since it opened in September 2006 as a day labor cener that matches workers with employers to fill jobs. The service is free and open to all Jupiter residents. For information on hiring workrs or volunteering call 745-9860.
