William Scott Davis Jr. of Boy Scout Troop 774 has been awarded the rank of Eagle by the Boy Scouts of America on October 15 th, 2007.
Davis, a freshman at Dwyer High Schools' Academy of Finance, received his Eagle rank during a special "Court of Honor" ceremony held on January 12 th, 2008 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter. St. Peter Church is the Troop's Charter organization. During this ceremony, "Sparky" a bald eagle from Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, made a special appearance to honor this momentous event. Davis is the first Scout to earn the rank of Eagle in Troop 774. Eagle is the highest rank in scouting and is earned by only about five percent of all Boy Scouts.
Mr. Davis first joined scouting as a Tiger Cub Scout in 1998, and has continued on the trail to Eagle demonstrating skills in leadership, personal fitness, citizenship, community service and outdoor adaptation. Davis has earned a total of 37 merit badges and has participated in numerous scout related activities with the Troop within Florida and the eastern United States. In 2005, Davis was one of a few scouts from Palm Beach County to attend the National Jamboree held at the US Army Base - Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia.
Each Eagle Scout candidate must complete a community service project that focuses on both leadership and organizational skills, and have a positive community impact. For his Eagle project, Davis coordinated volunteers from Troop 774 and the community to build 100 feet of boardwalk within the Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area for all visitors to learn and view this sensitive ecosystem.
