An Eagle court of honor was held on May 10, 2008 to recognize the achievements of Troop 751 scouts John H. Foley, Timothy K. Arnold, Michael D. Matthews, and Nicholas H. Clark. In order to attain the rank of Eagle the scout must fulfill requirements in areas of leadership, outdoor skills and service to others. Scouts are also required to earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and organize a service project to benefit their community. John Foley's project consisted of disassembling and then rebuilding a new privacy fence surrounding the water treatment facility at the Sonfest Chapel located in Jupiter Farms. Tim Arnold's project involved designing and building 15' high bat house stands that have the ability to be raised and lowered in case of a hurricane. The stands hold 11 bat houses at Dupuis Wildlife & Environmental Area. Michael Matthews' service project was to build a 40' long footbridge spanning a canal also at the Dupuis Wildlife & Environmental Area. Nicholas Clark's service project consisted of constructing 4 picnic tables for use at Jerry Thomas Elementary (his former school) as an outdoor classroom area.
These young men attended several different summer camps throughout their scouting journey. Johnnie went to Flaming Arrow in Lake Wales, FL, Tanah Keeta, Skymont, Tenn. and three high adventure trips Montana, Philmont N. Mexico, and Sea Base in Islamorada. Timothy attended camp at Skymont Tenn. (white water rafting), Flaming Arrow in Lake Wales, FL, Woodruff in GA., and a high adventure trip at Sea Base in Islamoadra (l week sailing around the Keys). Michael went to Camp Lone Oak, Flaming Arrow (twice), and Skymont, Tenn. and high adventure trips in Montana and Philmont N. Mexico. Nicholas attended summer camp at Woodruff GA. (twice), Flaming Arrow in Lake Wales, and his high adventure trip was in Montana.
Once achieving the rank of Eagle Scout a scout may then earn Palm awards. There are three of them bronze, gold, and silver. To earn a Palm award a scout must remain active in his troop and patrol for three additional months and earn five additional merit badges prior to his 18 th birthday. Johnnie Foley earned all 3 Palms and this is the first time a scout has achieved this in the history of his troop. He also took three international trips with the People to People Student Ambassador Program traveling to Europe, Japan, and Australia.
Johnnie graduated from Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts. He enjoyed all aspects of the theatre program especially technical theatre and volunteered to the theatre department over 1200 hours during his high school years. Johnnie received the top technician award for three years. He has also received the Congressional Award. Johnnie will be attending Full Sail University in Winter Park Orlando pursuing a degree in show production and touring.
Tim Arnold graduated from Jupiter High School and was active with the Robotics Team for 4 years and he was the JHS yearbook technical manager for 2 years. He was also a member of the National Technical Honor Society and Social Studies Honor Society. Tim will be attending the University of Central Florida in the Leed Scholars leadership program and plans to major in Information Technology.
Michael Matthews graduated from Suncoast High School with a grade point average of 4.0, ranking 8 th in his class and 14 th in Palm Beach County. He was involved in the Arts Committee of National Honor Society, marching and concert bands, and varsity tennis, co-founded the bonsai club, and participated in the Orchestra of Palm Beach County. He enjoys classical music and design work, and will attend the School of Architecture at Rice University in Houston, TX.
Nicholas Clark graduated from Jupiter High School were he was active in the Marching Warrior Band for 4 years, (they had the opportunity to perform at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans Jan. 08) the Robotics team for 4years as mechanical team lead and robot manager. He was also a member of the National Technical Honor Society and the Social Studies National Honor Society. Nicholas is also active in the St. Jude Youth Ministry, which involves spiritual and community service. Nicholas will be attending the University of Central Florida to major in Computer Engineering.
