On May 7 th, U.S. Senator Mel Martinez placed a call to Marshall Hine of Tequesta to inform him that he has received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point to join the class of 2012. Marshall has been pointing to a career in the Army for several years and will pursue a specialty in helicopter aviation.
Marshall, born in Bellevue, Washington, has resided in Florida since 1995 and has attended Limestone Creek Elementary, Jupiter Middle School and Jupiter High School.
He has been active in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle with Troop 173 in 2007 and travelling to New Mexico with the troop.
A spirited musician, Marshall has been the section leader for the Jupiter Marching Band for two years and credits his interest in music to Paul Destito the band director at Jupiter Middle School. He has also been a member of the popular SKA band
The Kitchen Sinks.
Along with Coach Sean Simon, Marshall was one of the original members of the Jupiter High Rugby club which has placed second in the state championships two years running.
Marshall received nominations to West Point from U.S. Senator Martinez and Congressman Mahoney.
Beast Barracks (otherwise known as Cadet Basic Training) begins on June 30 th, and classes begin in late August. Marshall knows he will be tested both physically and mentally by the rigorous program at West Point. In addition to the four years at the academy each cadet is obligated to serve for at least five years after graduation.
