Hanoi POW and former U.S. Senator praises candidate's credentials
(Stuart,FL) Retired Navy admiral and former U.S. Senator Jeremiah Denton endorsed former Army Captain Tom Rooney in his bid for Florida Congressional District 16 today.
"I am honored to enthusiastically endorse GOP candidate Tom Rooney for Congress," wrote Admiral Denton in a letter to the campaign. "Tom comes from a family that embodies the American dream, and he has lived up to his family's great legacy of service by proudly serving his country as an officer with tours of duty inFort Hood and West Point. He is a conservative that I am proud to support."
Denton retired as a Rear Admiral after serving in the U.S. Navy for more than 34years, including eight years of captivity in the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" among other North Vietnamese prisons. He was awarded with the Navy Cross for his resistance and leadership, even in theface of torture. He went on to be elected to the United States Senate as a Republican from Alabama.
"I am humbled to earn the support of true American hero," said Rooney. "Few have served this country with the level of courage displayed by Admiral Denton."
Tom Rooney served as a Captain in the U.S. Army asa JAG Officer, and taught Constitutional and Military Law at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was also an assistant Attorney General under Charlie Crist. He currently resides in Tequesta with his wife Tara and three sons.
