DEP seeks volunteers for Coastal Water Quality Monitoring
http://www.dep.state.fl.us/coastal/WaterMonitoringCouncil/I will try to sum up:
We (EarthRehab) are the recycled
Green License Plate campaign for the Environment.
I am a Surfer, Diver, Free-diver, Underwater Digital photographer, and Ocean Eco-activist. I love the Ocean.
Our goals:
#1 to create proceeds and awareness for Front-line Environmental Foundations with our Green License Plate campaign
#2 establish an
Independent Coral Reef Initiative (non-profit/non-funded) for Palm Beach County and the Atlantic Ocean waters. (Donations and Volunteering only.)
While contemplating where to start with the CRI, much research has led me to understand that Florida does not have an existing Water Quality Monitoring program for the Inlets and Beaches. No program- No Funding- No-reporting. What a shame.
A recent DEP report shows that of 1 in 5 Inland Water Basins, 272 bodies of water in Florida are classified as Impaired. (X5 = >1000 bodies).
Before we try to re-habilitate and restore the On-shore and Offshore reef eco-systems we must understand the Water Quality that continues to spill upon them, creating Algae Blooms that suffocate life.
I William Djubin would like to begin the pilot program of collecting the samples, and checking for Temperature, Salinity and Clarity.
I would then submit the samples to
Reef Rescue of the Palm Beaches for testing of Fecal Bacterium, and a host of other criteria including but not limited to Ammonium, Copper, Phosphorus, Dissolved Oxygen.....
The reporting will be deciphered by
Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative (NOAA), and made very public and private (copies sent to donors).
If we can reduce Ocean Pollution and dumping of toxic storm water run-off from our Inlets and pirate lines, we can establish a healthy Coral Reef Ecosystem off our coastline.
This is the
only long-term solution for an environmental friendly
BREAKER from the storm surges and beach erosion.
I would like to present this Idea to the public with the help of
you, to gain a response.
Would the local community support an Independent Water Quality Monitoring program, at a cost not to exceed $200.00 per test?
Cordially,
William Djubin
