Award Recognizes Outstanding Performance in Large Ground Water Systems Category
JUPITER, FLORIDA, February 19, 2009 - On February 2, Jupiter Utilities was honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) with its Region 4, 2008 Safe Drinking Water Act Excellence Award. The award marks the third time the utility has been recognized with the prestigious honor amongst all water utilities operating within the seven states comprising EPA's Southeastern US region.
"We are especially proud to be recognized for the third time in a decade for producing a product that meets the EPA's high safety standards." said David L. Brown, Director of Utilities for the Town of Jupiter. "It reinforces our commitment to quality and safety in all of our operations."
According to the EPA, the goals of the Excellence Award are to recognize and award water systems that are demonstrating commitment to compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act through outstanding operations and maintenance practices; to heighten overall public awareness of the contributions of public water supplies for ensuring adequate and safe drinking water; and to encourage public support for maintaining an exemplary status. The criteria for the award includes continuous compliance with all federal and state drinking water standards and regulations; continuous receipt of sanitary survey results which reflect outstanding administrative management, operation and maintenance; and quality customer service. The award will be presented to the Jupiter Utility by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, on behalf of the U.S. EPA.
