Beach Watch Program Promoted at Monthly Cleanups
Contributed by: Friends of Jupiter Beach on 5/27/2009

Beach cleanup volunteers enjoyed meeting the newest members of the Jupiter Police Department beach patrol division, Officers Don Hennessey and Jeff Bernstein. The beach patrol unit's primary focus is to address concerns along the A1A corridor. The officers are visible at the monthly cleanup events organized by Friends of Jupiter Beach, the 4,000-member organization dedicated to a clean and safe dog-friendly beach.

In 2007, JPD launched the "Beach Watch" program, patterned after the neighborhood crime watch effort, with full support of Friends of Jupiter Beach, who have been working closely with JPD since the founding of the group 15 years ago.

The JPD non-emergency phone number, 746-6201, is printed on each of the 200,000 dog cleanup bags provided by the Friends group at 29 dune crossover stations along the 2 1/2 mile stretch of dog-friendly beach.

The next beach cleanup is set for Saturday, June 6 at Ocean Cay Park. There is no need to register in advance, but large groups are encouraged to call 561-748-8140. Complete details are available on the website www.friendsofjupiterbeach.com .
