Contributed by: Patrick Davis on 6/19/2008

John Maxwell Roundtable Seminar Hosted at Loblolly Pines Golf Club

On Friday, May 30 th, 30 top CEO's and Martin County leaders met for an intimate Roundtable Seminar at the Loblolly Pines Club in Hobe Sound with international speaker and Best Selling author John Maxwell. Maxwell, who has communicated his leadership principles to Fortune 500 companies, and the United States Military Academy, spoke fluidly from principles he had learned across his years in ministry and management. The majority of the time was devoted to seminar material, with the balance of the morning open for Q & A from the participants, followed by a catered luncheon at the club.

The event was sponsored by Hobe Sound Bible College and Hobe Sound Christian Academy to raise funds for scholarships and other charitable causes. Event sponsor and alumnus James Crocker, president of Waterblasting.Com sponsored four of his top CEO's for the event. Crocker expressed the personal impact of the leadership teaching of John Maxwell on his company at the meeting. "We were doing OK, grossing about a half million a year. But I had bought into the myth that you can't find good help these days," he said. After attending a Maxwell Leadership Seminar seven years ago, Crocker applied what he had learned and went through all of Maxwell's books and videos. Waterblasting.Com, which manufactures specialized equipment to remove rubber from the touchdown zones of runways, will do more than $25 million in business this year.

Other Martin County leaders that were in attendance also expressed appreciation for the seminar and its impact. Vicki Davis, Martin County Supervisor of Elections, benefited greatly from the seminar. She said, "the teaching was absolutely dynamic - I have almost seven typed pages of notes. It was a life changing experience and I have already started putting some of the principles to work in the office and my personal life."

John Pierson, owner of Toyota of Stuart, a corporate sponsor for the event, said as result of the seminar, "My motto now is failure is not optional." Pierson also sponsored a seat for Sgt. Luke Murphy of Stuart, a survivor of a rocket attack on his Humvee in Iraq. "He refused medical treatment until he was sure all of his men were accounted for," said Pierson. "That's true leadership." Murphy lost a leg in the attack. As Murphy and Pierson exited the event, Maxwell acknowledged Murphy's commitment to his country and invited the participants to stand and share a rousing round of applause in his honor.

Other corporate sponsors included Family Private Care, who also was the luncheon sponsor for the event, Hobe Sound Bible Church, Addison Drywall, Treasure Coast Irrigation, and Hope International Missions, all of Hobe Sound, The Grace Place of Stuart, along with Kraftsman Trailers of Siler City, NC.

Other special guests included Anne McCormick, Martin County Director of The Boys and Girls Club, Jennifer Ferrari, Director of the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce, Steve Owens, owner of Diamond Landscape of Stuart and Mark Libatore, owner of Liberator Medical Supplies of Stuart.
