The El Sol Neighborood Resource Center is looking brighter thanks to a new, colorful mural depicting vibrant scenes from several Latin American regions that adorns an inside wall.
The mural, which was officially unveiled Saturday, July 19, consists of five 9 ft x 5 ft painted canvas panels. The art work is the result of a community project by students from the Corn Maya Club and Different Strokes Art Club at Florida Atlantic University's Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College in Jupiter. El Sol workers, volunteers and staff also helped.
"We are thrilled to be able to display this beaufitul mural that adds a wonderful new dimension to El Sol," said Jocelyn Sabbagh, El Sol Director. "It also serves as a reminder of the cultural heritages of the many Jupiter residents who came here from such Latin American countries as Guatemala, Argentina,Mexico, Columbia, Peru, Edcuador and elsewhere," she said.
Ms. Sabbagh also commended Florida Atlantic University "for all the support they have given this project and other projects that have helped to make El Sol a success."
In addition to the mural, a number of individual paintings by El Sol artists and others are on display and are for sale. The Center also has scheduled its first annual Art Fest for November 2 to showcase arts and crafts created by workers and volunteers.
El Sol is at 106 Military Trail, and is a not-for-profit Center that operates a job referral program that matches employers with workers to fill jobs. English language classes, job training, literacy classes and other programs are also offered. For information call 745-9860
