I-95 HOV Expansion Project

I-95 HOV Expansion, from Donald Ross Road (exit 83) north to S.R. 706/ Indiantown Road (exit 87A/B)

The $43.5 million, 4.5 mile construction projectwill expand the existing six-lane interstate to 10 lanes, which includes one general purpose lane and one High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction and additional auxiliary lanes. The project includes widening of the existing bridges over Donald Ross Road and the C-18 Canal; ramp improvements; sound barrier and retaining wall construction; signalization enhancements; new signing, pavement markings, lighting; and landscaping, including irrigation. Construction began August 21, 2008 is being performed by Posen Construction. Construction is expected to be completed spring 2012.

Restrictions:There will be a single lane closure to the inside travel lanes of I-95, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday, July 5, through Thursday, July 9, to fill the median.

There will be intermittent lane closures to the outside travel lane(s) on eastbound and westbound Donald Ross Road, in the vicinity of I-95, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., Monday, July 6, through Thursday, July 9, for ramp reconstruction.

Motorists should be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway by all Donald Ross Road entrance and exit ramps and the median area just north of Donald Ross Road. There is a new ramp configuration at the I-95 northbound exit ramp onto eastbound Donald Ross Road. This ramp is now signalized. One left turn lane of two lanes, on the I-95 southbound exit ramp onto eastbound Donald Ross Road is closed, as well as the inside eastbound lane of Donald Ross Road under the I-95 overpass. The speed limit is posted at 25 mph on the Donald Ross Road ramps and will be strictly enforced. Speeding fines are doubled through the construction zone. Please use caution.

The $44 million, 4.3 mile construction projectwill expand the existing six-lane interstate to 10 lanes, which includes one general purpose lane and one High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction and additional auxiliary lanes. The project includes mainline ramp reconstruction and the widening of the existing bridges over PGA Boulevard and Military Trail (exit 79C). Additional enhancements include improved drainage; sound barrier and retaining wall construction; new signing, pavement markings, lighting, and landscaping. Construction began August 20, 2008 and is being performed by Community Asphalt Corporation. This project is expected to be completed winter 2011.

Restrictions: There will be intermittent closures to two outside travel lanes on northbound and southbound Military Trail, in the vicinity of the I-95 overpass, around-the-clock, Monday, July 6, through Thursday, July 9, for bridge widening.

There will be intermittent closures to the inside and / or outside travel lanes of both eastbound and westbound PGA Boulevard, in the vicinity of I-95, around the clock, Monday, July 6, through Thursday, July 9, for bridge widening.

There are now stop signs at the northbound I-95 exit ramp onto westbound PGA Blvd and at the southbound I-95 exit ramp onto Military Trail. These lanes no longer merge. Please use caution. Early warning signs are in place on the ramps to alert motorists.

U.S. 1/S.R. 5 Drainage Improvement Project

This 0.18 mile drainage improvement project in the City of Palm Beach Gardens began on January 12, 2009. This project includes installing new storm water drainage outside of the roadway; repaving; utility work and the installation of French drainage. This project will be constructed in phases to minimize impacts to the public. Phase Three began on Tuesday, June 2 and consists of three construction segments; 3A, 3B and 3C. This $2.19 million project is being performed by Ranger Construction Industries and is expected to be complete late October 2009.

Restrictions: Southbound traffic is shifted onto a single northbound lane, as part of Phase 3A of construction. There is one lane open in each direction on the northbound side of the road. Only one lane will serve southbound through traffic as well as motorists who want to turn right onto PGA Boulevard / S.R. A1A (Jack Nicklaus Drive), left turns are not be permitted. All business accesses on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 will be open, excluding Citi Bank, (Bomar Drive) on the northwest corner of PGA Boulevard / S.R. A1A (Jack Nicklaus) and U.S. 1. Motorists will be asked to enter / exit Citi Bank from the driveways located on PGA Boulevard.

The outside left turn lane from eastbound PGA Boulevard onto northbound U.S. 1 and the northbound through lane on U.S. 1 at the intersection of PGA Boulevard / S.R. A1A (Jack Nicklaus Drive) are closed. Northbound motorists will be shifted to the outside right turn lane, which will serve as a through / right turn lane. Northbound left turn lanes onto westbound PGA Boulevard will be unaffected. This traffic pattern will remain until early July, weather and unforeseen conditions permitting. The contractor will then move to Phase 3B of construction, which will include a new traffic pattern.

The Oakbrook Square entrances off northbound U.S. 1 are now open. Motorists are still unable to travel southbound on U.S. 1 as they leave Oakbrook Square; only right hand turns are permitted.

From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., nightly, Sunday, July 5, through Tuesday, July 7, the driveway to Oaktree Plaza will be closed all motorists. Motorists will be directed to use Smith Drive, just south of the Oaktree Plaza driveway. This driveway will be reopened during non-working hours. The following driveway closure dates are pending, however it will not be until sometime after July 13; Limoncello Italian Restaurant , Car Sales of the Palm Beaches / U-haul and Self Storage.

The traffic shift from Phase 3A to 3B is anticipated to take place the week of July 13, over three nights, weather and unforeseen delays permitting. Phase 3B will open two northbound travel lanes and all directional turn lanes and through lanes at the intersection of U.S. 1 and PGA Boulevard / S.R. A1A (Jack Nicklaus Drive). One southbound through lane and all directional turn lanes will be open.

Electronic message boards have been placed on northbound and southbound U. S. 1 and S.R. A1A / PGA Boulevard (Jack Nicklaus Drive) to provide advance warning to motorists for Phase Three construction. Motorists should anticipate delays when traveling southbound through this area and should use caution.

Phase Three includes all project-related work scheduled for the southbound side of the road and is expected to last until fall 2009, weather permitting.

During the week of July 20, Seacoast Utility Authority is anticipating to close southbound U.S.1, for two to three nights, weather permitting. This is operation is being performed by Seacoast Utility Authority and is not part of this projects scope of work. For more information on this closure, please call (561) 627-2900.
