JUPITER, FL. -- Christopher Maloney, a former LA session musician and current co-owner of Absolute Music Studios in Jupiter, FL, has one of his former bass students, Evan Joffred, featured in the new movie Fame. The film is currently in theaters worldwide. Through Maloney's instruction and industry connections, Joffred was given an opportunity to audition for the role of the sole bass player in the movie.
"It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy," said Maloney. "As an instructor, you always hope to have a student who works hard and is dedicated to the craft of music. Evan was always that kind of student."
Joffred studied bass guitar with Maloney for nearly five years in Los Angeles until Maloney's recent move to Jupiter earlier this year to open Absolute Music Studios. This recent success story follows a long line of student placements credited to Maloney. His students have gone on to perform with such major acts as Rihanna, Liz Phair, Lifehouse, Ashes Divide and the network band featured on Nickelodeon.
Maloney's own professional credits are also impressive. He is a world-wide touring musician who has performed or recorded with Dweezil Zappa, Lisa Loeb, Lao Tizer and members of Savage Garden, INXS, Journey and UFO. He is a three-time ASCAP award-winning songwriter and has two CDs released through the Sunset Records label. Maloney's songs have been featured on television shows in over 15 countries, with programs ranging from The Late Show, Biography, In A Fix, The E True Hollywood Story and CNN newscasts. He was a faculty member at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, Calif. for 15 years, and the Dean of the Encore Program there for eight years. Maloney has also just completed an instructional book for Hal Leonard Publishing and has performed educational clinics around the world.
Maloney will continue his contemporary instruction style through Absolute Music Studios, his new private lesson facility that recently opened in Jupiter. Absolute Music Studios offers private lessons on all instruments and all styles of music. Maloney has taken great care in his selection of teachers, the modern décor of the facility, and the curriculum offered to ensure that students not only learn to play an instrument, but find the joy of music for a lifetime.
"Most students study music for the joy of playing" say Maloney. "There are some students, like Evan, that are able to turn those lessons into high-profile opportunities. I'm so proud of him, but I'm also so proud of all my students who work hard and enjoy the process of learning."
