JUPITER POLICE PARTNERS WITH PROJECT LIFESAVER
Contributed by: Scott Pascarella on 5/7/2008

The Town of Jupiter Police Department is excited about our new partnership with Project Lifesaver. Amid the dramatic increase of people with Alzheimer's, Down Syndrome, and Autism, Project Lifesaver has become one of the leading organizations addressing the need to protect these patients and bring comfort to their families and caregivers.

Project Lifesaver of Palm Beach County will begin their pilot program this June that will launch countywide. It will be conducted in collaboration with the Autism Project of Palm Beach County, the Jupiter Police Department, the Palm Beach County School District, FAU-Center for Autism Related Disabilities (FAU/CARD), the Southeast Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's Community Care, Autism Speaks, Mae Volen Senior Center and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

"This program is another tool for law enforcement and the latest example of how, through partnerships, we can help families feel more secure. Thanks to Project Lifesaver, search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes", said Chief Frank Kitzerow.

The Town of Jupiter Police Department will purchase, through the use of asset forfeiture funds, an additional ER locator that will be stored in Jupiter in case of a Project Lifesaver emergency call. This locator will track the frequency located on the wristband that each Project Lifesaver client wears. The average international response time is within 30 minutes or less.

Project Manager Michelle Damone said, "We are pleased that Chief Kitzerow of the Jupiter Police Department recognized Project Lifesaver's 100% success rate in locating individuals with Autism, Alzheimer's and other brain disorders and is on board with the project. We are also pleased that Chief Kitzerow brings his previous experience in Virginia with Project Lifesaver to enhance our project."

Project Lifesaver is an international organization that has been recognized for its outstanding programs and has used radio-tracking and locating technology that has rescued 1673 people with Autism, Alzheimer's and other brain related disorders.
