Well the writers may be on strike in Hollywood, but local kids are pumping out the scripts." Jupiter High School drama students showcased their talents at the first annual
JohnYancy Memorial Scholarship 2008 JHS Festival of Plays. The audience was impressed by the student's abilities. Out of the over 140 plays submitted to the Jupiter High drama department, the top 6 were selected and 5 were performed on February 2, 2008, in the JHS Auditorium. Each of the finalists had a budget of $75 to cast, direct and produce their play. A panel of judges selected the best performer for each play and awarded cash prizes to the best three. The first place prize of $250 was awarded to
Hillary Newton,
A Slice and A Soda. Second place, $175 was awarded to
Samantha McKinlay,
A Dosage Well Needed. Third place $125, was awarded to
Alex Tammaro,
Learning Magic. All Star cast award went to
Cody Nance, Charlie McGrath, Ashley Hagadom, Brigette Virgil, Alex Marrone with Honorable Mention to
Brandon Brown, the chalkboard man. You had to be there!
Also, at the awards ceremony, Jupiter Community High School Art students were given cash prizes for the Memorial Scholarships t-shirt and logo competition. The winners: $250 to
Amber De Rose, $150 to
Natalie Mc Crate and $100 to
Meghan Davis. There to receive his Honorable Mention was
Bo Burdge. The award winning t-shirts are available to the public for a donation of $20 each. The proceeds from these t-shirt sales will go to help fund the John Yancy Memorial Scholarships. Memorial Scholarships Inc., in part the John Yancy Memorial Scholarships, is a publicly funded non-profit organization dedicated to providing college scholarships and grants in memory of family, friends or co-workers. The John Yancy Memorial Scholarships are funded by donations raised at drug and alcohol free events promoting student volunteerism. John was a former drama student and a 2004 graduate of Jupiter Community High School. John was an artist, published poet and loved football. He was attending the University of Central Florida at the time of his death.
Memorial Scholarships, Inc. is presently funding two John Yancy Memorial Scholarships. A one-time scholarship awarded to a Jupiter Community High School graduating senior, and a Continuing Education Grant for a Jupiter Community High School graduate. These awards have no financial stipulations. There are no terms of employment to these awards.
Memorial Scholarships, Inc. is a 501-c3 tax-exempt publicly supported scholarship/grant provider. Our next events will be a dinning out in March and our second annual
