Over 600,000 Americans, including almost 3000 in Palm Beach County, are affected by polycystic kidney disease (PKD). This disease is one of the world's most common hereditary diseases, often causing kidney failure or death. That's why we are fighting back, and encouraging Palm Beach area residents to join us by registering and raising money for the Palm Beach Walk for PKD, the PKD Foundation's signature fundraising event. There are more than 60 walks held across the country, with the Palm Beach Walking taking place on Saturday, October 17, in Abacoa Town Center in Jupiter. Registration begins at 8 am and the walk will get started at 9:15.
You can walk with us, and fundraise too! Go to www.pkdcure.org/palmbeach and register and begin fundraising. Proceeds from this walk will help fund vital PKD research, education, advocacy and awareness, all aimed at finding treatment and a cure for PKD.
PKD causes cysts to grow on the kidneys, eventually leading to kidney failure. Parents with this disease have a 50% chance of passing it on to each of their children. Currently, dialysis and transplantation are the only treatments. There is no cure.
