El Sol Focusing on Job Training For Workers
Contributed by: Mike Richmond on 3/15/2008

In an effort to improve employment opportunities for workers and meet the needs of employers, El Sol, Jupiter's Neighborhood Resource Center, has begun a series of job training classes. The classes are open to all residents of Jupiter who are registered at El Sol.

A landscaping class includes vocuabulary and equipment knowledge. Previous workshops gave workers hands-on training on operation of power equipment used in landscaping. Other recently completed programs focused on house cleaning procedures and upholstery cleaning techniques. There have also been classes on painting sponsored by Home Depot, and a workshop on how to make vertical window blinds.

Other occupational training courses that are planned include drywall application and installation of hurricane shutters. Also, a course to train persons for work at banquet and party events. Participants in the job trainng classes are tested and upon successful completion of the courses are awarded certificates.

"The workers who complete the training gain self confidence and improve their ability to obtain jobs and employers are pleased because of the good work they do," said Ms. Dora Valdivia, El Sol Labor Coordinator. Workers also have an opportunity to learn English and computer skills while waiting for work.

The non-profit Resource Center is at 106 Military Trail, just north of the Jupiter Police Department. The Center's day-labor hiring program matches workers and employers to fill jobs. Various ancillary programs are also offered to educate new residents about their rights and responsibilities and provide education and accesss to counseling, health and other services to residents in need.

Since El Sol opened in September 2006, numerous workers have been placed in jobs, most of them temporary. Most of the employers are homeowners and others needing temporary help with such tasks as landscaping, painting, cleanng, moving and general labor.

El Sol is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Satuday and 7 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays. The day-labor hiring service is free. Employers pay the workers directly. For information call 745-9860.

And there you have it...Proof that Jupiter couldn't care less about the working class. Bob Friedman just shot his mouth off about how he needs to listen to the people in the charter neighborhoods who feel "unrepresented" and what does he do the very next day, he allows this illegal operation to not only harbor but train "undocumented" illegal aliens to steal American jobs in an already failing economy! The sidewalks of this sham el sol should be packed with protesters every Saturday! Bring a flag and a sign, and join the fight EVERY SATURDAY 9-12 and even better bring a list of businesses you see picking up illegals at el sol or on Center street or any code violations you see in your neighborhoods! Illegal means illegal!

Hmmmmmmm...... Let me get this straight. The ILLEGAL ALIENS are being harbored, fed, trained and entertained at the taxpayer's expense, while LEGAL QUALIFIED CITIZENS struggle to find work. Then the ILLEGAL ALIENS are encouraged and taught to DEMAND entitlements, such as free education counseling, health care and other services to "residents in need", also at the taxpayer's expense, and Jupiter citizens AREN'T OUTRAGED? Why is on one being held accountable for breaking the law, when the crime scene is next door to the Jupiter police station? IT”S TIME TO WAKE UP FROM YOUR STUPOR, PEOPLE, AND START CARING FOR YOUR TOWN & COUNTRY BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!
