On Saturday, June 7, Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital will host a memorial service to pay tribute to the 14 cats that had perished during the March 14 fire at Safe Harbor. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Carlin Park East Ocean Side in Jupiter.
Rev. Scott Peterson of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church will preside over the service. The memorial will also include lighting of candles, words of tribute, poetry readings and songs from students at ArtStage, and then the release of the ashes into the ocean.
The memorial service is open to the entire community and their animals.
"We will never forget these 14 precious animals - and certainly the heroism of our police and fire officials, and the extraordinary support of the community," said Roca. "This is our humble way to pay tribute and also find closure to the tragic fire and events in March."
Construction is underway to rebuild the veterinary clinic which was totally destroyed during the fire. A secondary clinic has been constructed in the interim to handle the medical care of stray dogs and cats, as well as regular clients' needs.
Completion of the new veterinary clinic is expected sometime in late July or August 2008. The public will be invited to the grand opening and celebration of the new clinic. The first responders from local and county fire and police departments will also be recognized and honored.
