World Ocean Day 2008 Events in North Palm Beach.
Contributed by: William Djubin on 6/4/2008

World Ocean Day was created in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro (although not yet officially designated by the United Nations).
World Ocean Day is an opportunity each year to celebrate our world ocean and our personal connection to the sea. The Ocean Project, working closely with the World Ocean Network, helps each year to coordinate events and activities. Together with the World Ocean Network, we are also working to have the United Nations officially designate World Ocean Day as June 8th each year.

The Friends of Jupiter Beach are sponsoring a volunteer beach cleanup and recognition of "World Ocean Day" on Saturday, June 7 from 8:00am-10:00am . This event is sponsored by our Adopt-A-Spot partner , Solid Waste Authority. As a special treat, there will be a Robot Demonstrationfeaturing "Ballistic", a ball-throwing robot, by members of Jupiter High School MARS Robotics Club, a longtime beach cleanup team.

Volunteers arrive at 8:00am at the Anita Lankler Pavilion in Ocean Cay Park east of US Hwy 1 and Marcinski Road ( Community services hours are awarded. All volunteers are welcome and advance registration is not required. When weather is in doubt, call 561-748-8140 for a "cancel" message.

Following the Beach Cleanup head North to Jupiter Island and Coral Cove Park for a group snorkel with EarthRehab, the fun starts at 11am.

Discover the many fascinations of the Coral Reef Eco-system, just off shore with EarthRehab. Complimentary Green License Plates for all who participate.

Saturday June 7th and Sunday June 8th we will discover the many fascinations of an on-shore reef located just off the Jupiter Island Beaches.

The On-shore reef system is a very delicate, fragile environment with many species of Algae, Live Rock, Invertebrates, Fishes, Cephalopods, and Crustaceans.

Occasional visits from Large Schools of Fish, Manatee's, Sea Turtles, Barracuda, Sharks, and Cuttlefish is not rare.

Underwater Digital Photo's will be taken to share with the online community of Ocean Activists.
Join us from 11am till 2pm @ Coral Cove Park, we have some snorkel gear available to borrow complimentary.
Don't miss this event.
