“Racers take your mark!”
Contributed by: Suzanne Neve on 5/6/2008

It's hard to believe, but in just a few months, over 600 athletes from all over Florida, and from around the world, will plunge into the Atlantic Ocean off Carlin Park for the start of the Annual Loggerhead Triathlon. The Loggerhead Triathlon is one of the longest enduring triathlons in the state of Florida. Dating back to 1985, Athletes have made the trip to Jupiter year after year to enjoy the magnificent Oceanside setting, the family-friendly atmosphere, and the competition. Jointly sponsored by the Triathlon Club of the Palm Beaches and the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, the event has become a "must do" on the southeast race circuit and has spawned some of the top Athletes in the United States.

This year's event is set to take place on the morning of Saturday, August 9 th, 2008. On this day, athletes will tackle a 3/8 mile swim in the Atlantic Ocean, a 13 mile bike followed by a 5 kilometer run, both on A1A. You could be one of them. There's no experience necessary! Love to swim, bike, or run but not all of the above? That's ok - find two friends and participate as a relay team. Do you have what it takes to compete in the Annual Loggerhead Triathlon? We think you do. Here's what to do:

1) Register: Fill out and return the attached 2008 Official Entry Form or visit http://www.altavistasports.com. There will be no race day registration this year; do not wait until the last possible day to register! Registration fees can be paid with either credit card or check. If paying by check, please make the check out to the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce.

As in the past, a portion of the proceeds from the triathlon are donated to help benefit the Marine Life Center of Juno Beach, a non profit education and conservation facility located on the ocean in Palm Beach County. The Marine Life Center of Juno Beach promotes the conservation of Florida's coastal ecosystem through education, research and rehabilitation, with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles.
