FORT PIERCE - Author Arlene C. Stein will offer a book talk and signing of her novel, "My Eye of the Apple: An Epistolary Reflection" at the Fort Pierce Library on Wednesday, May 21 at 3 p.m.
The author of two other books, "The Olive Tree" and "I Love You Goodbye: A Daughter's Nightmare Journey," Stein has enjoyed a career as a writer and musician. A native of Utica, N.Y., she devoted 35 years as a music educator after earning a Bachelor and Master of Music from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. She has frequently appeared as a chamber music pianist, vocalist, skilled accompanist and chorister. She highlighted her career by founding the Community Orchestra in Sarasota, serving as musical director until 1983 when she resigned to devote more time to performance, teaching and writing.
Stein's novel is a poignant collection of letters between mother and daughter that allows the reader to experience the apprehension of a young woman away from home for the very first time. Taken from her sheltered environment in a firm ethnic community, the daughter must suddenly confront the diversity evident in a fiercely competitive music world as well as issues associated with her customary observance of faith. The story provides a revealing tale of college life during the 1950s.
The book talk and signing is free and registration is not required.
