FORT PIERCE - The Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol, Florida School Wing 800 Group will be offering a presentation to young adults ages 12 and older and their parents at the Fort Pierce Branch Library on Wednesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. Topics discussed will be the programs, services and activities available for those wishing to join Civil Air Patrol's adult and youth programs.
Capt. James Kirkland, Lt. Martin Marugg, and Lt. Richard Selner will also talk about Civil Air Patrol's outreach, community services and educational programs. Information regarding The Space Discovery Program will be offered. Hands-on activities, such as coordination testers and gyroscopes, will be part of the presentation.
The highlight of the program will be a flight simulator that will allow participants to "fly" an airplane.
Civil Air Patrol celebrated 60 years as the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary on May 26. There are presently 56,000 members who performed 90 percent of inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, saving 103 lives in 2007. Civil Air Patrol members perform disaster relief missions, promote aerospace education and mentor the leadership skills of young adults.
The Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol, Florida School Wing 800 Group meets at the St. Lucie County International Airport every Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Space Discovery Program includes a space shuttle simulation facility.
The June 18 event at the library is free and registration is not required. An opportunity to "fly" on the computer-guided flight simulator will be on a first-come, first-served basis and there will be a sign-up sheet.
