United Way of Palm Beach County recently held its annual Community Impact breakfast to celebrate its accomplishments for the year and to install new officers. At the event United Way also recognized the people, foundations, partnerships, including those with media, and 500 local corporations that support United Way. In addition, United Way announced the recipients of the Chairman's Award, the Countess de Hoernle Humanitarian Award and Tocqueville Leadership Award.
The Chairman's Award was presented to six board members who are "Unsung Heroes," going above and beyond in their efforts to create community impact. The recipients were AnEta Sewell of South Florida Water Management District, Seth Bernstein of Boys Town South Florida, Evelyn Figueroa Parkes of Evelyn F. Parkes CPA, P.A., Mark Pickering of Medicaid Area 9, Steve Stinson of Florida Circuit Civil and Florida County Civil Mediator, and Bridget Berry of Greenberg Traurig, LLP. United Way staff member Debby Diamond was also a recipient. Diamond is the Executive Assistant to United Way's President and CEO, Scott Badesch.
The Countess de Hoernle Humanitarian Award is given to an individual or group that has shown outstanding community service. The award was given to the employees of United Way's 52 partner agencies for 2007-2008, for their dedication and compassion as they provide humans services to those in need in the community.
The Tocqueville Leadership award was given to Sherry and Lewis Hay, III. This award honors individuals or couples for their outstanding commitment and support of the community through United Way of Palm Beach County. The couple has been members of United Way's Tocqueville Society since 2002. Tocqueville members donate a minimum of $10,000 a year to United Way.
The Hays not only support United Way, but other local organizations including the Komen Foundation and The Benjamin School. Mr. Hay is the chairman and CEO of FPL Group.
United Way also recognized the top ten corporations that raised the most dollars for the 2007-2008 campaign. Those top 10 corporations are:
