Mr. Steve Kruspe, Education Specialist with the Loxahatchee River Historical Society, will present Secret Station J: Jupiter In World War II at the Society's free Lecture Series on Thursday, November 12, 2009. The lecture starts at 6 pm at the Juno Beach Town Center Council Chambers located at 340 Ocean Drive, Juno Beach. The Lecture Series is sponsored in part by the Town of Juno Beach.
Discover the Secret mission of Station J ! Kruspe reveals declassified information of how the United States Navy regained control of the Straits of Florida from Hitler's U-Boats in the early years of World War II. Under the command of Admiral Karl Doenitz, German Naval U-Boats sank 3 tankers within 48 hours within the 25 mile beacon reach of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. German U-504's Lieutenant Kapitan Hans Poske, cruised the northern end of the Straits of Florida while a companion U-128 stealthily plied the waters between Melbourne and Jupiter and hunted for tankers or freighters. Kruspe's research into Jupiter's unique place in our National Military History has uncovered a highly adventurous wartime episode that occurred along our coastline.
Steve Kruspe is a retired US Marine, educator for 16 years in the Broward County School system, and avid local historian. Kruspe has also been LRHS Camp Director for the past 9 years, conducted museum docent training sessions and educator's training workshops at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum. His innovative teaching and presentation style has twice earned him Teacher of the Year awards.
The LRHS Lecture Series is free to the public, but donations are welcome! Seating is limited. Please call (561) 747-8380 x101 to RSVP. Visit our web site at www.jupiterlighthouse.org for future lectures and additional programs.
