BEACH AMBASSADORS KEEP JUPITER DOG BEACH ON TRACK
Jupiter - Friends of Jupiter Beach is expanding the "Beach Ambassadors" program to encourage more beach walking and talking.

Volunteers who enjoy meeting other dog lovers on the beach are encouraged to share the news about preserving dog-friendly beach privileges. Beach Ambassadors (formerly referred to as beach patrol) remind dog owners about proper etiquette, including leashing dogs in crowded areas and not letting dogs approach others uninvited. Picking up after pets is an absolute necessity, made simpler by the dog bags provided free of charge by Friends of Jupiter Beach at 24 beach crossover entrances.

"Dog-friendly beach privileges are NOT guaranteed," reminds Joan Ross, president of the not-for-profit group's board of directors. "Unless all dog-owners follow the rules respectfully, these privileges could be in jeopardy. Having more FJB volunteers on the beach reminding new visitors of these rules keeps the message alive and keeps everyone using the beach in harmony."

Beach Ambassadors receive FJB t-shirts, clipboards and handouts for a $5 donation, and learn the key points of interaction at a brief meeting held immediately following monthly beach cleanups. The highlight of the newly expanded program is that there are no set schedules, no set times...volunteers share the good news whenever they prefer to go to the beach.

The next Beach Ambassadors learning sessions are Saturday, January 5 and February 2, weather permitting. If Saturday mornings are inconvenient, alternate sessions will be scheduled.
