Jupiter resident, Barbara Golden, Ph.D. Dr. Golden represents a person on a mission. As a current member of the board of directors for Oakwood Center of the Palm Beaches, she exemplifies Oakwood's mission to help clients build resiliency, facilitate recovery and achieve reintegration into the community. She lives up to her role as a board member each day, not only by creating fundraising opportunities for Oakwood, but also by assisting in the design of behavioral health care services that meet the needs of Oakwood clients.
Since becoming involved with Oakwood Center 5 years ago, Dr. Golden's volunteer role has grown from being a board member to a hands-on individual by creating an art therapy class and serving as coordinator. In this role, she teaches more than 30 Oakwood clients to cope with stress and trauma, by using art therapy to enhance cognitive abilities and enjoy the life affirming pleasures.
Dr. Golden also serves on the Board of the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach as Chair of the Education Committee. In that role, she is involved with an award-winning program bringing the performing arts to area schools for the children in Palm Beach County.
In her professional role, Dr. Golden's illustrious career began as a Special Education teacher, credentialed with a B.S. in Special Education, M.S. Psychology followed by Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology. She serves on the American Psychological Foundation Campaign Cabinet and has served on the board of directors of the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed and the American Psychological Association Council of Representatives.
Dr. Golden devotes her personal and professional life promoting the well being of individuals, which translates into the well being of the community.
