Volunteering With A Vision - Dr. Scott Hearing
Dr.Scott Hearing is certainly one who gives back.. He has visited many countries helping and sharing his medical experience and care. Travel teams set up clinics in third world areas to help those people who don't normally receive medical care. Dr. Hearing serves as a Director of Optometric Services for Medican Ministries International (MMI), a non-denominational Christian Organization providing health care in 30 developing countries worldwide.
MMI is committed to meet the need for medical care among the world's poor with lasting solutions through excellence in medicine, patient care, and health education. MMI is a unique organization that recycles new and used medical equipment, supplies, and medicines and puts them to use in less advantaged clinics and hospitals all over the world. Medical properties that would end up in American landfills are transported to third world countries to serve the sick and infirm
Dr. M. Richard (Scott) Hearing, OD FAAO practices at Visual Health Eye Center at 102 Coastal Way in Jupiter.
He is a long time Florida resident and graduated from the University of South Florida in 1979, received his Doctorate in 1984 and trained in Los Angeles and at the Long Beach Naval Hospital. He received his Board Certification in 1987.
In 1994 Dr. Hearing was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and selected as a Clinical Affiliate for a Laser Program and Consultant for Refractive Surgery and Corneal reshaping. He is a staff member at the WPB VA Hospital and a consultant for their Blind Rehabiliation Center. Dr Hearing is a member of the Board of Directors of Braille International, the second largest Braille printer in the world.
As a former US Army Reserve Medical Officer, Dr Hearing was assigned to an Army Hospital in Alabama and also has his private pilot's license. He has gained expertise in hi-tech visual aids at Johns Hopkins and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
In addition to his busy practice in Jupiter, Dr Hearing is involved with many community activites, including the Rotary International, Awana Youth Program and Boy Scouts of America. He was an Eagle Scout and Scout Leader.
