Professional Paintball Team Visits Local Field
Contributed by: Rush Paintball on 12/21/2007

Professional Paintball? Yes, it does exist.

One of the top Professional Paintball Teams of Europe, Russian Legion, held team tryouts for their 2008 roster at a local paintball field. Rush Paintball of Jupiter played host to the Russian team and a group of 9 international hopefuls that spent 2 days drilling, running and entertaining spectators and other paintball players.

The Russian team showed up on Saturday around noon and stayed until 4 PM. They returned on Sunday morning at 10 AM and finished with their tryouts at 2 PM. Then they signed autographs on anything that was handed to them: T-shirts, paintball boxes and even a camera tripod. Rush Paintball was giving out free T-shirts to anyone who wanted them for autographs. The team took pictures with their fans before their 3 PM departure. They were extremely gracious.

Although paintball will be celebrating its 25th birthday this year, it is still a relatively unknown and misunderstood sport. Paintball is not about teaching people to be militaristic. With its gelatinous capsules, paintball is more like chess, tag and capture the flag all rolled into one. And because communication is essential to be successful, paintball has become one of the top team building activities corporations are using for their administration and managerial staff.

Paintball is played by 9 million people worldwide and it is not uncommon for major tournaments to have 400 teams competing for $250,000 in prize purses. It is considered an extreme sport, but statistically, it is safer than bowling (Sporting Goods Manufacturing Assoc.).

Rush Paintball is owned and operated by Don and Sharon Guest. Their two sons, Joshua and Caleb, also help run the family operation. Don played tournament paintball at a Pro/Am level--which is equivalent to minor league baseball--for several years. He played on the team and was their air smith--repairing paintball markers (guns) and the air systems that propel the paintballs. He began working on his dream 5 years ago. After 4 years of hard labor and dedication, Rush Paintball opened its doors in November 2006.

A player can bring their equipment or rent everything he needs to have a great day of play. All you need to bring is clothes that can get dirty and the willingness to have a great time. Just follow a few safety rules and be prepared to go home happy, dirty and exhausted.

Rush Paintball is open Saturdays and Sundays 10 AM to 4 PM and Monday thru Friday with reservations. They will be open December 26 and 27 at 10 AM. For more information, see the website http://www.rushpaintball.net or call Don at 561-596-8171.
