JOC
Jupiter Outdoor Center
Jupiter Outdoor Center [ JOC] held its 10 th annual Spring Break Kayak camp 4/7-11/08. For the first time JOC introduced Stand-up Paddleboarding along with kayaking. Robert Robinson, a fifth year JOC camper and avid fisherman, caught several fish including a catch and release snook. William Plummer, a former camper and currently a JOC guide, caught a barracuda while on a stand up board in the Jupiter River. Hadley Rose Berger, whose sister attended camp last year, said "It's so fun mixing up the kayaking with stand up paddling ". Ali Denney and Gealyn Clegg, both proficient paddlers, agree that stand up paddling is way cool , especially the Uli Wars, where campers stand paddle-less on the inflatable soft-sided boards and move their weight side to side and back and forth until one falls off. "Sort of like log rolling without the brain damage" says Rick Clegg.
John Denney, whose family recently moved from Maui to Jupiter, is credited for the having the foresight that stand-up boarding would soon be as popular on the east coast as he has seen it become in Hawaii and California. According to various sporting magazines, Stand-up Paddling is the fastest growing water sport in the world .Together with Rick Clegg, Founder and Chief Executive Outdoorsman for JOC they have created the first Stand Up Paddle Board Camp in Florida and the entire east Coast.
