PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL,
March 10, 2008 - The chilliest night of the year didn't keep the crowds away from the grand opening of
Bagged - photographerBarry Seidman's first exhibition in Florida, now being shown at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre in Delray Beach.
Seidman, a nationally recognized, still-life photographer, attracted serious photo hobbyists, professionals and friends who traveled county-wide to help Seidman and long-time, business partner and wife Mary Ann Kurasz, (who live in Palm Beach Gardens,) celebrate the opening of the exhibition. The evening concluded with Seidman giving a presentation about his background and photography work to the interested attendees.
"We are delighted to be able to exhibit Barry's work," said Fatima NeJame, executive director of the Palm Beach Photographic Centre. "I have been following his work for some time and when I found out he had moved to Florida, we connected and organized having a show here at the Centre. Some of our members said that this was one of the best shows we have had here."
The
Bagged exhibitionpresents a series of 20, rare, dye-transfer prints. The title refers to the motif of a brown paper bag in each image to frame or present the classic beauty of fruits and vegetables. The show is open to the public Monday thru Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., through April 19, 2008.
The show was originally exhibited at Neikrug Photographica in New York City in 1982, when the use of an eight-by-ten-inch view camera and dye transfer printing was commonly used by fine art and commercial photographers. This was the standard in photography to achieve the best color, richness and depth.
"The prints on display here are the originals," Seidman stated. "Time will not alter these images. This is the only and the final printing of this show, since dye transfers are not available any more. Many of these vintage images are one of a kind."
Also on display at the Photographic Centre is a preview of Seidman's newest series called
Bloomers. On view are four, large-scale, giclees on canvas of surrealistic images of flowers, offering a microscopic look in extraordinary detail of flowers not ordinarily seen in real life. The complete series, of 20, will be exhibited beginning April 10th at Palm Beach Gardens City Hall.
After establishing himself as one of the top advertising print media photographers in the country working for major national brands such as Heublein, Smirnoff, Cruzan, Chivas, Nikon, Toshiba, Citibank, American Express, Visa, Colgate-Palmolive, Coca Cola, Proctor and Gamble, Nabisco and AT &T, Seidman is now focusing on his fine art photography. He maintains a studio presence in New York where he continues to shoot for advertising clients.
Also exhibiting at the Photographic Centre, in the Community Gallery, is Rolfe Ross' work titled
Street Photography from Cuba to Coney Island.
