HAPPY DAD'S DAY KING
Contributed by: Rich Albert on 6/15/2008

Father's Day 2008 at Saltar Sound Productions proved to be a very interesting morning. I turned on the lights at 5:00 AM, in the studio, to do some recording. To my surprise The King was standing with his back to the wall. I said, "You scared me. What are you doing here?" He told me he wanted to record something for his Momma. I said, "But today's Father's Day not Mother's Day." He went on to tell me he lost track of time over the past couple of years. He said, "I think the pills are taking a toll on my memory."

He was gyrating all over the place, playing my guitar, and singing. I told him to just be calm and have some more medication while I get my camera. I was back in a flash and captured this image of The King at around 6:00 AM this morning. He looks good for 73, doesn't he? Must be the medication.

I couldn't keep this guy in one place. He was gyrating all over the place. After we were finished with the recording I said to him, "How are we going to send this to your Momma in heaven?" He said, "I got a friend from up there that stops by to see me once in a while, I'll just give it to him." I said, "Who's your friend up there." He said, "I think you might know him. He mentioned your name and told me to stop by to see you. He said that you would do a great recording job for me. His name is God. I think He runs the shows up there. He wants me to come and do a show, but I told Him I wasn't ready. If you do a gig up there you gotta' stay for the rest of your life." I said, "Very Interesting. I think you made a good choice by not booking an engagement."

I asked him to stay after the session was completed. He said he would stay the rest of the day and tell me more. I told him how much I appreciated him giving up the rest his day. He said, "It's not a problem. I have been hanging around all night waiting for you to get up. My medication keeps me up sometimes. I noticed you left your door unlocked so I welcomed myself into you studio. I hope you don't mind." I said, "Not at all, I am honored to have you here."

I will let you all know how the day went...to be continued.

Now, it's about 11:00 Am. The King asks me if I got any bananas. I tell him we can get some delivered if that is his desire. He puts up the cash and also pays for the recording session. I have Publix deliver 10 pounds of bananas. I'm rolling in cash and soon to to rolling in bananas. Publix delivers 20 pounds of bananas. They doubled the order. I make The King his favorite. I make him 12 fried banana sandwiches. This guy has got an appetite. I wonder how he has lived to be 73 eating these things. I guess it's the medication.
