Photographers Capture the Vision of Jupiter

Winners Announced in Town's Second Annual Digital Photo Contest

JUPITER, FLORIDA, February 19, 2008 - The official winners in the Town of Jupiter's Second Annual Digital Photo Contest were announced and posted this week on the Town's website, www.jupiter.fl.us. Joaquin Castilla of Jupiter took top honors, taking home the Grand Prize Nikon D40x, 10.2 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera Kit.

This year the contest theme focused on the community's vision: "Jupiter is a coastal community committed to preserving its unique character and vibrant small town feel." Participants were asked to submit photos from around Jupiter that best illustrated the vision and essence of Jupiter.

The winning shot was entitled, "Pelican versus Lighthouse", and featured pelican lost in thought on a crisp Jupiter morning.

The second place shot, taken by Natasja Kelly of Stuart, also featured Jupiter's beloved Lighthouse, with a peaceful view of a marina in the foreground. Third place was an adorable toddler enjoying the Florida weather near the historic landmark, taken by Joshua Gutierrez of Jupiter.

A number of other beautiful area shots were named as honorable mentions, and featured natural areas, beaches and area landmarks. All of the shots submitted can be viewed on the Town's website at www.jupiter.fl.us.

The Town of Jupiter Digital Photo Contest is completely free. Entrants were required to submit only photos taken within the Town, and to upload their submissions to the Town's website at www.jupiter.fl.us. The panel of judges consisted of John J. Lopinot, Palm Beach Post Deputy Director of Photography, Barbra Kuebler, Chairman, Town of Jupiter Art Committee, Diane Cappella, Art Teacher at Independence Middle School, Hobe Hiler, Staff Photographer for Hometown News, and Mitch Kloorfain, Chief Photographer for Hometown News. The panel scored entries in three categories: composition, creativity, and technical merit, arriving at a total score to rank the winners. All photos submitted will be used to create an online photo gallery of the Town, and various photos may be used in future Town publications.
