In January 1962, I was a smart alec army vet, agnostic-come-atheist, college senior a few months away from a degree in aeronautical engineering. In an elective course in philosophy I was assigned reading from a strange 2100 page book that turned the rest of my life upsidedown. It had the unmitigated gall to claim to be the 5th epocal revelation to this planet (Urantia?). I knew it was hog wash but something about it enticed me to read it. It was wonderful science fiction. It offered answers to all the questions I'd ever had about what was important in life--the nature of God, the nature of the universe, life on other planets, the history of this planet, and the past (and ongoing) visits to this planet by spiritual personalities. It sure would be nice if it weren't hogwash, because if it weren't it could straighten out an awful lot of our current problems. The book is down-right addictive. I've read it seven times (at anywhere from one to three plus years per reading) and listened to it 15 times (at 150 hours of listening each time). It just gets better and better every time.
