The Carlisle Palm Beach Honors Those Who Have Served Our Country

Lantana, Fla.- On November 12, 2007, The Carlisle Palm Beach brought together the community for an afternoon celebration to honor the Veterans who have defended our nation's ideals and principles.

To kick off the festivities, the Marine Corps League of the Palm Beaches raised the flag on the Carlisle's newly installed flagpole in a flag raising ceremony while guests looked on. Once the flag was raised guests joined Tom Ramiccio, President of the Lake Worth Chamber, in reciting the pledge of allegiance, before following the processional, led by the JRAFROTC, inside for refreshments.

Once inside, Congressman Ron Klein spoke of the importance of remembering troops, not just while they are serving, but always. "Today is an opportunity for Americans to come together and show our appreciation for the enduring spirit, dedication, and willingness of Veterans to serve and protect our great nation," said Klein. "As we go through a celebration like the one today, it reminds you we should honor individuals as brave as the ones sitting before us year round.

After a few words from Dennis Koehler, keynote speaker, multi-decorated, Colonel Banna Rodriguez Ghioto was welcomed to the stage. Colonel Ghioto, a proud Army Nurse who served in Iceland, England, the Philippine Islands, and stateside, spoke of her experiences in World War II in the U.S. military.

"I am proud to be here today," said Ghioto. " It is always my honor to let the younger generations know that women in uniform also guaranteed our freedom today."

Colonel Ghioto's many honors include: WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, National Defense Medal, European African Middle Eastern Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, U.S. Army Reserve Medal for Achievement and the Meritorious Service Medal.

"It is a privilege and an honor to host an event for the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us," said Frank White, executive director of the Carlisle Palm Beach. "This event is our way of saying thank you for all that you have done."

Participants and guests of the event included: Tom Ramiccio, Pastor Paul Underhay, Victor DeMayo, Dennis Koehler, Marvin Singer - President of the Carlisle Veteran's Club, Madeleine Garbarino - event organizer and Concierge of the Carlisle Palm Beach, Dan Liftman - staff assistant to Congressman Alcee L. Hastings, Maurice Jacobson - South Palm Beach Mayor, Dr. Lynn Moorhouse - Vice Mayor of Lantana, Major J.K. Wells, Jon Dipert and members of the JRAFROTC.

As part of the Carlisle's mission to create more intergenerational activities throughout the community, they were excited to have the Wellington Twirlers spend the afternoon entertaining the residents and guests. The benefits of intergenerational activites have been proven to enhance communication skills, promote self-esteem, develop problem-solving abilities, and foster friendships across generations.
