Global Warming : The Rest of the Story The headline of our local newspaper caught my attention: "
State addresses global warming---Scientists tell [Miami] summit of dire consequences of climate change, including the loss of important habitat around Jupiter." (
Jupiter Courier, 7/15/07). O boy, it's happened! Jupiter is on the verge of being submerged. The article goes on to tell of the Greenland ice that's melting and can cause a 20-foot rise in sea level, enough to cover Florida up to Orlando. Maybe we all need to
head north while the getting is good!
Now some folks have read both sides of the page concerning the "global warming" story while others only hear the grave warnings of a group with an agenda. I often think of the children and youth of our country going to bed at night wondering and worrying about such fearful teachings, presented to them as fact, while they've never heard "the rest of the story." Is it any wonder that many of them look as if they had lost their best friend. What a future! The "greenhouse gases" will eventually overtake my life and land. It's hopeless!
In "The Politics of Global Warming," by Dr. David A. Noebel in
The Schwarz Report (June 2007), the author mentions waking up to an article in his local paper, relating, "it's all over, the earth is finished---North America can expect more hurricanes, floods, droughts, heat waves, and wildfires; the coasts will be flooded by rising sea levels; crops will decline due to water shortages and climbing temperatures; Africa will suffer the most; 30 percent of the world's species will disappear; don't live near the coasts, Arctic, mountains, etc."
"These are the conclusions of the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)---humans cause global warming and we must accept the panel's conclusions because of the years of accumulated scientific data supporting it." Noebel relates the claim that 2500 scientists made these predictions. However, according to S. Fred Singer, an atmospheric physicist at George Mason University, only about 100 of these 2500 are climate scientists, and that there was never a poll taken to see if they agree with the U.N. report.
Further, Noebel relates articles telling of global warming on Mars and Pluto. Isn't science amazing! But then, if "smokestacks and city-choking traffic" heat up our planet, what is causing warming on other planets? "Changes in surface reflectivity also might do the trick, according to research published in the journal
Nature." Dennis Behreandt writes in "The Sun and Global Warming" (
The New American, 9/18/06): "Can it be just a coincidence that the climate appears to be warming as the Sun is getting more active? Clearly there is more to global warming than greenhouse gases."
In the same article, Dutch and Russian scientists reached the conclusion that the climate is very susceptible to changes in solar radiation. "It could mean that the global temperature fluctuations during the last decades are partly, or completely, explained by small changes in solar radiation." Other European researchers "pointed out that periods of high solar activity corresponded with periods of warmth on Earth and that periods of low solar activity likewise correspond with periods of wet, cool weather."
Incidentally, weather satellite observations of the last twenty years show no global warming. In fact, a slight cooling. These are believed to be more accurate than temperatures taken on the earth, often near cities. Dr. Singer states: "The data show that the climate warmed between 1900 and 1940, long before humanity used much energy. But then the climate cooled between 1940 and 1975. Then it warmed again for a very short period of time, for about five years. But since 1979, our best measurements show that the climate has been cooling just slightly. Certainly, it has not been warming."
"So there is more to global warming than we have been led to believe? Of course! Global warming, global cooling, the DDT scare, and a host of other supposed pending catastrophes have been used over the years to bring the capitalistic West to its knees," writes David Noebel. "All the evils of the world are America's fault. Whatever is wrong in the world can be traced to 'corporate capitalism,' which is in the process of polluting the whole earth. The goal is to overthrow capitalism and 'create a new non-exploitative society.'" Now wouldn't you expect that such an appraisal of the guilty capitalists would come through a report of the United Nations, composed of mostly socialist nations who hate Americans and regularly vote against the United States?
China is reported to be the most polluted country in the world, but they're not brought under indictment. America is the cause. We must give up our cars and turn to our bicycles. We're causing the ice to melt on Greenland and it will inundate us all. The
Jupiter Courier article reminds us that cars and coal are belching greenhouse gases and "the choices we make everyday will have a profound effect on our state's survival." We must start with simple things like "switching light bulbs to energy-efficient compact-fluorescent bulbs. It's up to Floridians to learn and act to save our state."
To further put fear in the hearts of the young---and old---the warnings that came out of this Miami summit with Governor Charlie Crist indicated that "according to scientists, we only have about ten years to reverse the global changes before those catastrophic effects, like the melting of the ice caps, will be unstoppable." Shame on all those who continue to use standard light bulbs and drive your cars to work! Excuse me, but I don't believe my light bulbs have anything to do with the ice in Greenland. Further, I believe the destiny of America and the world is in the hands of my Lord, not Al Gore or the U.N.
