Junior Golfer Wattles to play prestigious FutureMasters
Tequesta's local junior golfer, JHS student, Jeff Wattles, 15, has been invited to play in the prestigious Future Masters Golf Tournament in Dothan, Alabama June 21 - 28. The Future Masters Golf Tournament is one of the most traditionally rich junior tournaments in the world. The very impressive list of golfing greats that have competed in this tournament over the years include U.S. Open champions Hubert Green and Jerry Pate, Masters winner Larry Mize, PGA champions Bob Tway and Mark Brooks, along with British Open winner Ben Curtis.
Jeff has been playing golf since the age of 6, when he joined his first summer golf camp and has been addicted ever since. Wattles recently won first place in the Junior PlayersTournament in his age division at Eastpointe Golf and Racquet Club in Palm Beach Gardens with a below par of 69 the second day of play, following a 74 the first day.
On any given day, it is likely you will find Wattles practicing his swing or playing a round of golf with friends at his home course inTequesta Country Club. Jeff played as a freshman this year for JHS coach John Anderson as his second seed player. Jeff has been playing on the Florida Junior Tour for the last two years and began playing on the Junior Players Tour at the age of 10 and won several of those tournaments along the way.
The Future Masters has become a proving ground for golf's brightest junior stars. But it's not just about thegolf - it's also about the spirit of competition and sportsmanship that is passed on to the young players throughout the last fifty-eight years of this elite and growing golf tournament.
