JCS athletes are college football pioneers
Contributed by: Leslie Downs on 9/8/2006

Chris Downs and Kyle Webber, both former Jupiter Christian football players, are the first football athletes from the private school to go on to play college ball. The two players were on the JCS inaugural football team.

On Sept. 1, the duo faced each other as Webber, an offensive tackle for Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., and Downs, a linebacker for Jacksonville University, played for opposing teams in their first college gridiron event.

After being tied at halftime, Gardner-Webb pulled away and won 49-14.

Downs is a member of the JCS Class of 2005 and Webber is a member of the Class of 2006.

Congrats to the Downs and Cullifer/Webber family - I know you are so PROUD of the boys. JCS has developed some awesome athletes over the yrs. Football program has added alot of spirit to the school. JCS Athletic dept. has made tremendous effort to implement sports programs and how academics play another role in developing their student - your child. It will be interesting to see how the boys from the STATE Wrestling team perform in college - cant wait to see JCS share all their accomplishments. Sue Miller
