JHS Senior Rebecca Tassell and Sophomore Mark Olson won the girls and boys County Diving championship Friday at the North County Aquatic Center.
JHS Junior Morgan Canfield finished third and JHS freshman Courtney Hansen fourth for the girls. The divers' success earned 71 points for the JHS team heading into the weekend's swimming events.
Tassell captured the top spot with a score of 439.70 points. Trailing by one point with three dives remaining, Tassell went ahead to stay by hitting a forward one and one half summersault with a half twist. Olson scored 468.45 points besting his nearest competitor by 130 points.
As a junior, Tassell earned First Team All Conference honors and finished second in the County championships. Tassell will compete with teammates Olson, Canfield, Hansen and Danika Clark in the Class 3A District 7 meet at the Aquatic Center on October 20.
Tassell won Districts the last two years on her way to States where she finished ninth last year. Olson will seek to repeat as District winner and better his eighth place finish last year at States.
Tassell, Olson and Canfield are coached by David Goodwin who runs the 3D Diving program in Jupiter at the Aquatic Center.
