JTAA Baseball "Fun Day"
Contributed by: lajos horvath on 5/21/2007

Celebrating the end of another JTAA spring baseball season - and having a great time in the process, was job #1 for the hundreds of players, parents, and volunteers who attended JTAA baseball "Fun Day" held Saturday May 19 th, from 8:30 am until about 5 pm at the youth baseball fields at Jupiter Community Park.

The event was non-stop action where the T-ball, Machine Pitch, Minor League (9-10 yrs), and Major League (11-12 yrs) players participated in various age-appropriate skills events on the West Field while the East Field was reserved for the Championship games in the two older divisions.

T-Ballers and Machine Pitch teams were up first, as they rotated through 10 fun-filled skills events such as tug-of-war, 3 legged races, wiffle ball HR derby, and other team focused skill events that got the day started right. The Minor League Championship game on the East Field was a thriller, where the Indians bested the Blue Jays 5-4.

JTAA cooked up the classic American lunch (Hot Dog, Soda, Pretzels and Flavored Ice) starting at 11am while the Minor Leaguers held their skills competition on the West Field. The parents could watch their 9 and 10 year olds battle it out for the Golden Glove, or maybe Running the Bases. Meanwhile on the east field, it was the Cardinals besting the Dodgersin the Major League Red Division Championship game.

In the finale at 1:30pm on the East Field, JTAA featured the Major League Blue Division Championship game where the Marlins were hoping to overcome both the Yankee legend as well as the JTAA kids who wore the pinstripes this spring. In an epic pitching battle, the Yankees squeaked out a 2-1 victory.

The day finished up with the Major League Skills competition on the West Field where the 11 and 12 year olds battled each other for who had the Golden Arm, the Golden Glove, the fleetest feet, and who was the Master at the Plate in the Home Run Derby - where it was all about how many towering 200 foot bombs each entrant could hit over the fence! Kevin Fry ended the day's festivities by sending over a half dozen souvenir baseballs into the JCP parking lot to earn the title of Sultan of Swat for 2007.
