The Astros met the Phillies early Saturday at Maplewood field. The Astros had just enough players since
Ronnie Worley,Brian Nichols and
Matthew Lavallee were all on IR.
Much improved over last week the Astros put together an excellent fielding display. In the first inning the Astros went with a quick gloved infield. Super speedy players
Chris Radice and
Taylor Leonard covered 2nd and 3rd base while the big guys,
Rauiri Murphy and
Charlie Stuve Jr. had SS and 1st. With
Dan Alarie at pitcher and starting catcher
AJ Riczko the Phillies went down one, two, three. As the innings progressed Daniel,Ruairi, Charlie and Taylor all worked together to make a team record of five outs on bases.
Versatile
Grady Vandiver III showed great skills coming in to catch in the forth inning.
Hitting production fell off a little from last week's +.700 to a .583 average but there were some great hits.
Josh Williams, Ryan Svopa-1 RBI,
Mark Silver, Charlie and AJ all got on base with solid hits.
Daniel-2 RBI's,Taylor-2 RBI's and Ruairi-4 RBI's, were the hitting leaders.
All in all a solid team effort.
With a lot of mutual friends among the players, coaches and parents on both teams it made for a great game with a fun atmosphere for all.
