It was a hot and crazy morning Saturday with team pictures first followed right after by games.
Also hot were the gloves for the Astro's as they took to the field in the top of the first inning. In his first start in the infield Brian "No Fear" Nichols (1 for 2 batting,1 RBI) made a beautiful catch off the first batter. After a strikeout the White sox got a nice hit that surely would have gone for extra bases but Ronnie "Rocket" Worley made a great stop and fired the ball in. The fourth batter cracked a nice fly ball right into the waiting glove of Ruairi "Rip Roarin" Murphy (2 for 2, 2 RBI's).
Great defense boys!
As hot as it was the Astro's bats were cool in the bottom of the first but they did manage two runs.
The top of the third saw more great defense. As in the first inning the Sox hit a short but sky high fly pop. The ball seemed to hang forever while Ryan "Wild Thing" Svopa (1 for 2)positioned himself for the catch. Dan "The Man" Alarie (2 for 2, 1RBI) playing first handled a hard grounder and raced to first beating the runner. A strikeout later and the Sox were down one, two, three!
The bottom of the second is when "Stro's" bats came alive.
AJ "Moose" Riczko, Mark "Quick" Silver, Charlie "Slug Fest" Stuve,Josh "Too Big" Williams (1 RBI), Grady "Big Dawg" Vandiver (1 RBI), Matt "Beast" Lavallee, Taylor "Turtle" Leonard, Ruairi, and Dan all hit safely to knock in five runs and end the inning.
Christopher "Playin-up" Radice patrolled the outfield in the third along with AJ who 'almost' made an ESPN style catch off a rocket hit to deep left field.
The Sox were mounting a rally with one out in the third but a great catch and tag at third by Charlie made it two. Finally Josh handled a grounder and made the easy toss to Charlie for the final out.
The game was shortened due to a late start but there wasn't much complaining from many players and NONE of the parents as cool snacks and an air-conditioned car ride home sounded great!
