The "No Worries" sponsored Astros struggled early with the Blue Jays on Saturday in the late afternoon heat. Coming up with first at bats and playing without senior Brian Nichols, the 'Stros, for the first time this season, went down one, two, three. Ronnie Worley, AJ Rizcko and Mark Silver all had good solid hits but unfortunately all three went right at the Jays talented pitcher for three easy throw's to first .
In the bottom of the second Taylor Leonard made his debut at catcherand with a nice throw from Charlie Stuve just missed getting the play at the plate.
Charlie later made a nice catch on a fly pop but the damage was done and the Jays were up 3-0. Top of the second had the Astros again hitting right at the glove happy Jay's infield. Charlie hit a double and Josh Williams hit a single but it was another first for our boys as they went two innings without a run.
The Jays came up for their second at bats and the 'Stros defense began to wake up holding the Birds to just a single run. Ronnie made the play of the day with a great "catch and touch" at third base for the force out.
At the top of the third a cool breeze blew some life into the Astros. Taylor hit a double followed by a Ruairi Murphy single. Ryan Svopa and Ronnie both hit RBI's for two runs. AJ hit a single bringing up Mark Silver and Christopher Radice both batting in runs. Finally Big Charlie whacked another ball for the fifth and final run putting the Astros up 5-4.
Too bad though for last ups! Even with a nice backhand stop by Ryan, along with defensive help from Matt Lavallee, Dan Alarie and Grady Vandiver the birds scored five more to finish it 9-5. "C'mon Ump,one more inning!"
It was a hot and strange day but the coaches are proud of the kids and they're happy post game attitudes!
