The 7-8 JTAA flag football Rams sponsored by Elkhart Construction met the Texans in an opening day defensive battle on Saturday at Maplewood Park.

After stopping the Texans opening drive the Rams wasted little time and on the second play on offense Katy "Lightning" Geremia, in her first ever football game, ran 40 yards down the sideline for the TD. Mark "Quick" Silver then caught a pass from Chris "Slick" Radice (3 for 4 passing) for two points. The Texans speedy outside defenders forced the Rams to run up the middle most of the game. Brayden 'Thunder" Kreidler, Ianis "Sonic" Ciolacu and Luke "GQ" Hutchison all ran hard right at the heart of the Rams defense picking up good gains to keep the offense on the field. But just when the Texans thought it was safe, Haley "The Comet" Howarth followed a big block by Dalton "D-Man" Gentile outside for a big gain. After giving up a TD and one point conversion the Rams took over in the fourth and ground the clock down with their running game. The biggest play coming on fourth and short and Grady "Big Dawg" VanDiver taking the "Polar Express" up the middle for a first down and sealing the game and never giving the dangerous Texans another chance. The Rams defense was without Kurt "Krusher" Pelchen so it was up to standouts Reece "The Rocket" Riccardo with four flag pulls and Joey "Big Hurt" Kleisley ( 3 flags and two catches) to constantly harass the Texans backfield as well as chasing down runners from behind.
