Under the lights Saturday night, Jr. Midget Maroon sailedpast Gardens Orange 35-8.TheMustangs came out kicking, scoring on their opening drive.The offense drove the ball downfield,59 yards on 6 plays, scoring on a 20-yard pass from quarterback Griffin Garlandto receiver Derek Beard.The extrapoint was run in by Peter Cox, his first of two for the night.
The Mustangs scored again on their second possession drivingthe ball on the ground for 51 yards on 4 plays.Chris Copeland scored on a 12 yard run, capping runs byMichael Cuva, Cox, and Luke Sanders.
Jr. Midget Maroon went on to score 3 more times on plays byCuva (38 yd run),Copeland (61 ydrun), and Garland (1 yd run).Beard ran in one extra point and Tyler Murphy kicked for two points. Allin all the offense led by linemen Tyler Berkman, Kelly McDow, Austin Crumbley,Ryan McWilliams, Jake Scott, Zach Gampp Steed Horne, Joe Russo, David Anderson,Ryan Fernandez and Keiffer Ruckert, posted a total of 311 offensive yards.
The Mustang defense held Gardens to only one touchdown.The entire defense of Cox, Gampp,McDow, Nathaniel Ross, Cuva, Anderson,Murphy, Sanders, Jake Pavlock, McWilliams, Crumbley and Beard, postedmultiple tackles. Garland and Copeland led the defense with 12 and 11 tacklesrespectively.Cuva posted a sackto end the third quarter.And thedefense completely shut the Gators out in the 4th quarter allowingonly 24 yards.
