The Pee Wee White Mustangs coached by Dan Schlager and sponsored by the Waterway Cafe continued their winning streak by beating the Port St. Lucie Pirates6-0 .
It was adefensive battle from the kick-off until the final buzzer! Most of the game was played mid-field as each team turned the ball back to the other on downs. It started in the first quarter when
Kyle Forbes
tackled the offense and got the ball back for the Mustangs. Then
Drew Lipscher
threw a pass to
Devon Bradford
but it wasn't enough for a first down. So back to the Pirates the ball went.
Thomas Talenti
sacked their quarterback and the ball was once again in the Mustangs possession.
Mikey Lay
threw a pass to
Alex Derrico
but came up short for the first down. Rounding out the first quarter
Tyler Coliskey
intercepted a Pirates pass and
Chandler Holyroyd
sacked the quarterback and still there was no score.
The second quarter was when the only points were scored the entire game. It was on a
Mikey Lay
run into the endzone.
Devon Bradford
blocked several passing attempts by the Pirates and then came up with a pick and ran for 15 yards.
Max Jones
gained lots of yardage on several running plays but the Mustangs never scored again.
The third and fourth quarters were more of the same. Quarterback sacks, interceptions, long running plays, great tackles, recovered fumbles and yet no scores. Late in the game as the Pirates began gaining some yards, heading for the endzone, with less that 2 minutes onthe clock, Drew Lipscher read the pass play perfectly and was there for the pick! With a sigh of relief for the Mustangs the game ended.
The Pirates were tough, but the Mustangs defense ground it out! It was great playing such good competition and everyone congratulated each other at the end. The Pirates even gave all the Mustangs a cold drink as they were shaking hands. Two great teams that will no doubt meet up again.
