Jupiter Mustangs VS PSL Pirates

The Jupiter Mustangs Mitey Might White traveled north to play the Port Saint Lucie Pirates Saturday at Whispering Pines Park in PSL. Captains for the Mustangs were Christian Tomei, Wade Kellogg and Trevor Sousa.

Jupiter won the toss and elected to kick off. Theyrecovered the onside kick at the Pirates 43. With excellent field position, power running back A'kin Williams averaged 6 yards a carry moving the ball to the Pirates 18 yard line. Chris Irion behind the blocking of Brennan Jones, Taven Forsyth and Ryan Talenti carried the ball up the middle 12 yards to the Pirates 6. Quarter back Christian Tomei using the hard count caught the Pirates jumping off sides. The penalty brought the ball to the Pirates 2. Fullback Ryder Sutcliff went up the middle for his first touch down of the season. The Mustangs went for the onside kick again. This time Nicky Vardavas recovered the ball for the Mustangs. A turnover gave the ball back to the Pirates. Bryce Bourge got into the action dropping the Pirates running back for a 2 yard loss. On third down the Pirates went to the outside. From his crawler position " Butchie" Paskiet some how rocketed to the side line for a shoe string tackle preventing a big gain.

The second quarter started with the Pirates in possession. A screen pass on 4 th down went for a big gain. Looking for another big gain on the left side the Pirates went for another screen pass. Linebacker Peyton Moon was ready, almost intercepting the ball. Two plays later on 3rd down the Pirates quarter back kept the ball and raced around the left side for a 38 yard TD. Opting to kick for the extra points. The MustangsDylan McCormick got a hand on the ball and the Pirates attempt failed.

The third quarter was a defensive battle. Tackles by Nicky Grant, Carmine Ramazio and Trey Vanwandorhan helped stop the Pirates high powered offence. The Mustangs regained possession. Punishing runs by A'kin Williams started a long Mustang's drive from their own 42.

The fourth quarter started with the Mustangs driving the ball deep into Pirates territory. Runs by Nick Mc Donald and Chris Irion had the Pirates on their heels. On third down running back Mikey Robinson went off right tackle for a 7 yard touch down. The extra point again went to Mikey with a block from Matt Phillips he went in for the score. Out standing kicking by Nick McDonald and heads up play by Paul Whitely gave the ball back to the Mustangs. The Mustangs drive stalled but burned precious minutes off the clock. The Pirates finally got the ball with only 2:25 left in the game. Trevor Sousa had a solo tackle to stop the Pirates on 1st down. Wade Kellogg batted down a pass on 2nd down. On the last play of the game the snap went over the Pirate quarterback's head. He scooped it up and raced around the left side where he was met by Eric Gibson, and Scott Davis as time expired. Good news for the Mustangs running back Joey Bretz out with a nonfootball injury should be able to play soon, welcome back Joey.
