The only score of the game came on the Mustang's third possession of the game and was made with two quick well executed passes by quarterback Griffin Garland. Both passes were to Derek Beard, the first for 9 yards and the second, 80 yards for the touchdown. Peter Cox ran it in for the extra point. The Mustang offense, including Tyler Berkman, Kelly McDow, Austin Crumbley, Ryan McWilliams, Jeremy Worthen, Jake Scott, Zach Gampp, Petru Barcan, Steed Horne, Joe Russo, David Anderson, Ryan Fernandez , Keifer Ruckert and Michael Cuva, posted a total of 236 yards.
The real story was the tremendous work of the Mustang defense. Three times the Shamrocks entered the red zone and three times they left empty handed.
The 4th quarter saw the most dynamic play by the defense. Mustangs caused a fumble on their own 1 yard line which was recovered in the end zone by Luke Sanders. The Shamrocks next possession was ended by an interception by Chris Copeland. The Mustang defense, including McWilliams, Worthen, Crumbley, Gampp, Tyler Murphy, Jake Pavlock, Garland, Beard, Cox and Nathaniel Ross, held the Shamrock to only 6 first downs. The defense delivered its first shutout of the season.
