Brought to you by Horizon Tile. The Mustangs came out of regular season last Saturday 8-0. They faced the West Palm Beach Patriots for the 1st round of the Playoff's last night.(10-28-09)
#28 Brandon Murphy was a key player of last nights game scoring2 out of3 of the touch downs for the Mustangs as well as some amazing tackles and blocks the entire game. Corey Hunter, Aaron Van Keuren, Jack Vandermeulen, Nicholas Kearns, Spencer Hoagland, Zak Sprankle, Tanner Vecchio, Coulter Karr, Anthony Powell, Johnny Raich, Max Berger, Jonathan Alarie, Shane Roberts and Blake Crumbley of the Mustangs offensive line all played extremely well last night. Putting up some key blocks and plays that allowed both Quarterbacks #16 Wyatt Walther and #8 Kyle McMullen to get the Mustangs down the field. Chase Sanders, Zak Sprankle, Coulter Karr, Blake Crumbley, Brandon Murphy and Reece Albert all ran the ball throughout the game gaining yards and the 1st downs we needed to get a win over the Patriots.
The Mustangs Defense was once again impenetrable. Sean Thompson, Dylan Weiss, John Sweeney, Alex Radli, Brandon Murphy, Chase Sanders, Makoa Maresca, Dylan Hickok, Kyle McMullen, Reece Albert and Wyatt Walther were all part of a job well done allowing the team to move forward to game 2 of the Playoff's.
In the 1st half the Patriots had trouble getting the ball into Mustangs territory. On one of their possessions they were faced with 3rd and 10 as Mustangs #53 Anthony Powell made a big tackle for a loss yards for the Patriots. On 4th down #9 Makoa Maresca forced em out of bounds and the Mustangs tookover possession. Right away #5 Reece Albert was handed the ball and ran for 20 yards bringing the Mustangs into Patriots territory at the 35 yardline. Then #28 Brandon Murphy ran the ball for 10 yards gaining another Mustangs 1st down at the 25. Patriots put up a fight on the next few downs bringing us to 4th and 12 as Brandon Murphy ran downfield for a first down at the 12 yardline. Reece Albert gained a few yards on 1st down. A few minutes later Mustangs were offsides and we were at 3rd and 12. Brandon Murphy gained 10 yards bringing the Mustangs down to the Patriots 5 yardline. The Mustangs wanted a Touchdown! It was 4th and 2 and Reece Albert was able to get a Mustangs 1st down. Next play, #5 Reece Albert scored the 1st touchdown of the game with 3:45 left in the half. The kick was short and the Mustangs were leading the Patriots 6-0.
Mustangs kicked and Brandon Murphy made it downfield and took the ball carrier down hard at the Patriots own 35. On 2nd down Wyatt Walther made a nice tackle stopping them from gaining any yards. Then the Patriots were able to get a 1st down at their own 49. Pass play was incomplete and on 2nd and 10 Wyatt Walther, Chase Sanders, Anthony Powell and Makoa Maresca all teamed up on a tackle as the Patriots got the1st down and were in Mustangs territory on the 38 yardline. On 1st and 10 the entire Mustangs defense wanted part of the takedown as John Sweeney, Kyle mcMullen, Wyatt Walther and Brandon Murphy took em down. It was 2nd and 8 with 54 seconds left in the half as Brandon Murphy made a tackle at the Mustangs 29. Then #30 Dylan Weiss took the Patriots down way in the backfield for a huge loss of 10 yards. Itwas 6-0 at the half.
3rd QTR #28 Brandon Murphy kicked an onside kick and also recovered it for the Mustangs!! Then #25 Chase Sanders ran the ball for 20 yards getting the 1st down at the Patriots 37. Coulter Karr gained 3 yards on a play and then Kyle McMullen handed off to Reece Albert who ran the ball to the 24 for another 1st down. Brandon Murphy gained 5 yards on 1st down and then Reece Albert was able to get another Mustangs 1st down at the 11 yardline. Kyle McMullen was trying to get the ball in the endzone with Brandon Murphy and Reece Albert but penalties on us kept pushing us further back. But finally, Kyle was able to hand the ball off to Brandon who got it in for another touchdown for the Mustangs. The kick was good and it was now 14-0.
Patriots return the kick to the Mustangs 48. On 1st down Wyatt Walther took the ball carrieir down in the backfield for a loss of 12 yards. 2nd and 22 Blake Crumbley, Kyle McMullen and Dylan Hickok were all part of the sack on the Patriots quarterback. 3rd and 40 Brandon Murphy put a stop on the play at the 35. The Mustangs tookover possession at the Patriots 44 yardline.
4th QTR Brandon Murphy again was able to run for a 1st down at the patriots 20 yardline and then the next play Brandon made it in the endzone for another touchdown. The kick was a miss and it was now 20--0.
On the next Patriots possession they were able to get a touchdown making it 20-6 with only 6:54 left in the game. It was only the 2nd touchdown scored against the Mustangs the entire season. The extra points were no good and the Mustangs were ready for another run downfield.
Brandon Murphy brought the kick up to the Mustangs 39. Then the next play Brandon ran the ball for 23 yards. A few plays later Brandon again ran for 10 yards but it was 4th and 14 so Patriots tookover. Wyatt Walther and Chase Sanders were not about to let the Patriots score so they took em down way in the backfield on 1st down making it 2nd and 20. The clock was winding down. #9 Makoa Maresca made 2 impressive plays in a row. Stopping the Patriots from scoring again, Makoa took theball carrier out of bounds and then made a nice tackle on the ball carrier on the next down to finish the game with a win. It was a tough game but the team played hard and came out as the winners with a final score of 20-6. The Mustangs take on game 2 of the Playoff's this Sunday at JCP. They are now 9-0!!! GO MUSTANGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
