FAIRWINDS HOSTS NATIONAL GOLF PROGRAM FOR KIDS
Contributed by: Erick Gill SLC Media Relations on 5/14/2008

FORT PIERCE - Fairwinds Golf Course has been selected and agreed to host "Hook A Kid On Golf," a national skill development golf program administered by the National Alliance for Youth Sports, running June 16-20 from 9 a.m. - noon.

"Hook A Kid On Golf" is aimed at youngsters who normally would not have the opportunity to learn to play the sport of golf.

"We are excited about the opportunity to host this program," said Fairwinds Manager Matt Baum, local "Hook a Kid On Golf" site coordinator. "Most youngsters have opportunities to play sports such as baseball, basketball and football, but only a select few get the opportunity to learn about golf."

The first level of this program is a Tee Level Clinic in which locally sponsored children receive a free week-long instruction clinic. Participants also receive a starter set of golf clubs, a golf shirt, golf balls and other supplies such as a golf hat, which they are allowed to keep.

Children are able to participate free through $125 sponsorships from area businesses and individuals. For their sponsorship fee, sponsors get the opportunity to participate with their sponsored youngster in an end-of-the-week golf outing. To be eligible for participation, youngsters must have never played golf, not own a set of golf clubs and be between the ages of 8-13.

For more information about sponsoring a child for "Hook A Kid On Golf" or to volunteer your time please contact Fay Lukoskie or Matt Baum at (772) 462-2722.

Fairwinds Golf Course is an award-winning public course managed by St. Lucie County's Parks and Recreation Department, located at 4400 Fairwinds Drive, Fort Pierce (one mile south of Indrio Road on U.S. 1 on the west side of the highway).
