FORMER CHAMP VISITS JUPITER BOXING CLUB
Contributed by: open wire on 6/8/2008

Members of the Jupiter Boxing Club and Martial Arts Training Center had an opportunity to meet and train with former champion Louie Lomeli this past weekend. Lomeli had a remarkable professional career and was the number 1 ranked contender in 3 different weight divisions in the late 1980's through the early 1990's. In 1989 Lomeli pulled off one of the biggest upsets in boxing history by defeating the current number 1 ranked lightweight in the world John Duplessis who had compiled an undefeated record of 27 victories with 0 defeats. Lomeli defeated Duplessis by knocking him out of the ring late in the bout which was televised nationally by ABC's Wide World Of Sports. Lomeli sparred and trained Friday and Saturday afternoon with some of the members that were fortunate enough to show up for their daily workout routine. Owner John Daddono said "Lomeli is just one of many celebrity status fighters that will make special appearances from time to time at the Jupiter Boxing Club and Martial Arts Training Center". Daddono has an inside track in luring some of today's top named world champions and contenders to Jupiter since he is the current Chairman and founder of the International Boxing Organization, a highly regarded international sanctioning organization which negotiates world championship bouts with some of the biggest names in boxing today.
