Jupiter, Florida (October 22, 2009) - Former WBC and IBO heavyweight boxing champion Pinklon Thomas formally launched Project P.I.N.K. (Pride In Neighborhood Kids) with an appearance at the Jupiter Boxing Club in Jupiter, FL.

Thomas who is the founder of Project P.I.N.K. is on a mission to provide today's youth with opportunities and mentorship similar to what he received as a young man. As Thomas explains, he was a student in a Pontiac, Michigan classroom when suddenly the door opened and in walked Dave Bing the superstar basketball player for the Detroit Pistons. The appearance by Bing, who has since become the mayor of Detroit, made an impression on Thomas that has lasted for all these years. "When I have a chance to meet Dave Bing in person, I am going to tell him that I am who I am today because of you and the way you handled yourself that day in my classroom," Thomas said.

After Thomas finished speaking with members of the press, he went on to explain his program in further detail to members of the Jupiter Boxing Club. "Children from deprived areas need to believe in themselves. I want to help them be physically and spiritually prepared," Thomas said.

Shortly after addressing the club members, Thomas proceeded to shadow box for roughly 15 minutes in preparation for his impressive heavy bag workout. The 51 year old former champ, now living in Orlando, showed signs of the Pinklon Thomas of the 1980's. "He's maintained good hand speed and can still crack with both hands," said John Daddono, owner of the Jupiter Boxing Club. "I think we were all impressed at his physical condition and the way he moved around the ring and the bags," Daddono added.

Jupiter Boxing Club member Ken Cook said "it was just awesome being in the same room with Pinklon. When he began instructing the class, I couldn't believe I was being coached by the former heavyweight champ of the world. That was really cool".

Thomas signed autographed gloves and photos for members and members in turn made donations to Project P.I.N.K. which will aid in the completion of the project's website, which should be up and running soon. To become involved in Project P.I.N.K., contact the Jupiter Boxing Club at (561)743-1400.
